What does it look like to work as a data scientist at L’Oréal ?

For your internship, you will join the Data Science team of the Tech Accelerator. You will have 3 main missions:

The board :

• Define and apply Data Science and AI best practices
• Provide expertise on all defined technologies

Projects :

• Build and operate projects around Data Science and AI
• Support all L'Oréal divisions worldwide in the implementation of projects

The group's Data community:

• Enrich the community of the Data Science and IA group (international, IT/business and multi-divs)
• Identifying the most relevant foreign partners: schools, start-ups, companies, publishers, etc.
• Encourage the community through the definition and implementation of internal and external events

You will evolve in a favorable international environment:

• Realization of projects surrounded by experts in their respective fields: Data Science, IA, Data engineering, Big Data architecture, BI & Big Data technological solutions, etc.
• Diversity of missions (trade, marketing, industry, finance, research, etc.)
• Diversity of data available (internal/external, structured or not, etc.)
• Latitude to identify and test new approaches, technologies and tools

Main missions and responsibilities:
You will join the Data Science team of the accelerator in projects already started on which an exploration track will be entirely dedicated to you or on entirely new projects where a "Proof of Value" will be requested. You will work with great autonomy in an agile context, supervised by Data Scientists / Machine Learning engineers.

Projects can be in fairly broad business areas (Finance, Marketing, Operations, Retail, Web, etc.) and in equally diverse fields of artificial intelligence (Language Processing, Recommendation Systems, Time Series, Machine Vision, etc.). Depending on the progress on your subject and as part of the progress of the team, a second project may be offered to you.

Here is an example of missions carried out during previous internships:

• Creation of a tool allowing the automatic processing of contracts (recognition of certain types of clauses and signatures on digitized contracts in several languages: French, English, Chinese)
• Creation of a recommendation engine for our professional customers to simplify the purchase of multi-brand products.
• Construction of an algorithm able to recognize emerging brands in social posts.
• Prediction of footfall in our stores.
• Construction of a similarity calculation engine between products on multiple parameters

Your main tasks will be :

• Browse the bibliography in order to find in order to constitute a state of the art.
• Prioritize approaches based on feasibility and business need criteria
• Implementation and testing of the different approaches on an ongoing basis, respecting the team's principles in terms of code and methodologies.
• Perform code reviews on various projects, as well as present your code to your peers for continuous review and improvement.
• Present the results to the different professions and be able to question certain requests when necessary, popularize your work to as many people as possible.
• Build an industrializable solution.
• Document the developments and tasks carried out.

Academic background: Master’s in data science, AI or applied mathematics
Understand business stakes and have a business-oriented appetence
You are curious and collaborative with a sense of popularization and argumentation
Have a good level of English

Here are some more technical requirements:

• Machine Learning: Knowledge of classic and more advanced algorithms. (NLP, Computer Vision, Deep Learning,..)
• Python programming: data manipulation libraries, Machine Learning, knowledge of object orientation, unit testing, docstrings documentation.
• Code management and versioning tool, GIT type
• Drafting of technical and functional documentation
• MLOps: Notions in code deployment and industrialization are a plus. (Docker, Kubernetes, KubeFlow)
• Notions in back-end (flask, Django, NodeJS), front-end (ReactJS, VueJS) would be a p

When it comes to soft skills, here are some nice to have /

Flexibility/open-mindedness; ability to popularize and argue; diplomacy,
Writing skills in both French and English; analytical mind.
